There are many parts of senior year that you look forward to throughout high school.  Still there are moments that you thought were so far away just a few short years ago, but they really were not; they just seemed distant at the time.  It’s interesting, growing up, gaining perspective and realizing how quickly time actually passes.

When I was founding the Anthropology Club at my high school in sophomore year, I was worried.  I feared that I wouldn’t have enough content to share or events to promote to our members.  Now, as we held our last Charlotte Catholic Club Day and sign-up for the Anthropology Club, I could not possibly share all the information I have to share with our members and will pick what I think is most valuable.  I look forward to sharing the dates of the Catawba Nation’s “Yap Ye Iswa” Festival with them so that they can attend.  As I look at club meeting dates, I have content in the form of guest speakers and artist talks galore.  

We have our returning members and about 20 new members in the club for the ‘24-‘25 school year.  In addition, I am focusing on a succession plan for club as another student will need to take over leadership of the club when I graduate this coming May.  One of the priority agenda items for our first meeting will be accepting indications of interest (for club leadership) from among our current membership.  From there we will work with our faculty sponsor, Mr. Goodier, to select the best person or persons from those who show interest.  After selection is complete, it will be important to train the new leader in our annual schedule of events, club newsletters and overall resources.  I am excited to pass on what I started, but also a little sad.

All in all, this year promises to be an exciting and busy one.  I look forward to sharing what I learned this summer through the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources with our members and empowering them to discover anthropology and archeology after I have moved on from Charlotte Catholic.
