All..the…things
May 21, 2024The last month of school is always a whirlwind, but this year seems even more insanely busy. I cannot believe I am wrapping up my junior year of high school and will soon be a rising senior. My school softball team made it to the third round of the state playoffs; extending our regular season by almost three weeks. My three AP exams are behind me and I am taking my last two required non-AP exams this week. I was inducted into the National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society and the Student Athletic Advisory Board. I am also running for executive office of our school’s Spanish Honor Society. In addition, I am launching my college application season and trying to fit in some time to do some shovel testing at a dig with the Catawba Nation. I also began practice for my travel softball team, which is about an eight-ten hour/week commitment. That’s just this week.
After this week, I have a brief vacation with my family in Florida (which is more of a work trip to put our condo back together from Hurricane Ian). Then I return home and start my internship with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources the following Monday. My internship runs from June 3 to July 12; from 9-4:30 Monday to Thursday in person in Columbia, South Carolina. My weekends in between are filled with softball tournaments that are six plus hours of driving each way or require my family to travel by plane. I am literally exhausted just typing about it.
All this said, I know that my summer archeology internship will give me plenty of exciting and interesting topics to share here. Finding the time to share them along with all my other commitments might be a challenge. I look foward to documenting my experiences and adventures. Stay tuned and HANG ON-it’s going to be wild ride!
